The Epic Games Store was previously only available on PC and Mac, but now it is launching for Android users worldwide and for iOS users in Europe. This could signal a shift in how apps are distributed, especially on iPhones, potentially leading to a future with multiple app stores on your phone.
Epic has been pushing for this change, with its antitrust lawsuit against Apple being dismissed last year, but finding success through other means.
Specifically, the Epic Games Store's availability on iOS is thanks to the Digital Markets Act, a new law in the European Union. However, the store is currently only accessible in the EU on iOS devices.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney stated, "The tide is turning and the mobile ecosystem is finally opening up to competition." He also noted that "the fight is far from over."
As for available games, the store is launching with Epic titles such as Fortnite, Rocket League Sideswipe, and Fall Guys for mobile. Epic plans to start adding third-party developer games in December.
